91 - breakfast

"Morning!"

There had to be a law for the minimum cups of coffee one needed to have before anyone could be perky.

"Nice to see you, too, Jen."

"Aww," she cooed, "is somebody gwumpy?" She laughed at his disturbed expression. "Sorry, couldn't help it."

"Yeah, ha ha, very funny. See if you get any pancakes today..."

She toned down her smile. "Still, after the little wakeup I gave you..."

Farley shivered, remembering her lips under his ear, fingers tracing shapes up his inner thigh. He hadn't lasted long, but damn...

He shook himself, then realized-

"Well, I'm definitely awake now..."

"So you're Cereza's mysterious Flynn..."

The young woman (though God knew how old she really was) straddled her bike, leaning thoughtfully into one velvet-covered palm. She looked nothing like Bayonetta, but she was still a witch.

"Always the look of disappointment..."

"Not really. She told me you were a fighter, and I'm inclined to believe her. To be frank, though, you don’t strike me as her type."

"Well, that was seventeen years ago..." He stopped when he saw Jeanne smile.

"She told me that, too. I suggest you not tell Luka, though. Poor boy's had his ego deflated enough already..."

They were about to put him under when he asked.

"You couldn't haff picked a better time for this?"

"Might not have another time."

Her face softened. "Ach, very well. Herr Claymore-?"

"Yeah, sure..." He sighed theatrically, but walked out.

"If you vould elaborate...?"

"Look, I know you care about the kids 'n all, but why'd ya do it in the first place?"

She was quiet, and he almost thought she'd leave. He wouldn't blame her.

"For so long, I'd thought the Germans kindred spirits, yet it blinded me to the horror of what we'd become. Now, I know better."

Never cared much for Wales's ramblings. Jack didn't look like the Hand of God or the Second Coming (or a Second Anything), but he took Ryan away, which was all that counted.

But Doctor Lamb came back and Eleanor didn't. Ten years she didn't even see her, and she knew it was punishment for letting that damn Tin Daddy snatch her.

Then he came back and didn't have the decency to put a bullet to her - and things changed.

Jack wasn't a savior, any more than Lamb, but he didn't have any more choice than the rest of them.

"So how do we do this - the quick way, or the safe way?"

Aldo glanced over at him. "The quick way bein'?"

"I kick the door in - and we know I can do it. But if whatever's here is as important as everyone's making it out to be, then we need to keep a low profile. The last thing we need right now is unwanted attention." Especially me.

"And the safe way?"

Thornton reached into the valise and unrolled the lock pick set, holding it out for Aldo to choose as he smiled.

"Now that's more like it..."

"You said you were Sinclair, right? Of 'Sinclair Spirits'?"

"The one and only. Don't worry about tellin' me your name. Everyone in Rapture knows who you are." He scowled. "Or at least what Lamb said you are. Why the sudden curiosity?"

"The last time I checked, the store had a bit of an... infestation."

He shuddered, remembering the plaster-covered splicer, balanced perfectly like a statue of a ballerina. The other splicers' jabbering was disturbing, but it made them easier to track and avoid.

If you weren't vigilant, you wouldn't know a plaster splicer was there until it snapped your neck.

Family get-togethers were always tricky.

When said family had been trained from birth to kill, the stakes got higher.

Throw in the beliefs and social mores of different time periods? Forget about it.

Bill sighed and looked at the memo. He respected the Assassins' goals and skill, if not their methods, but getting the prodigal sons to behave was like pulling teeth through your ass. Altaïr found Ezio immature, Ezio thought Altaïr too serious, and both thought Desmond was still a child, and didn't trust him after Minerva's revelations.

Notify the general population? Yeah - to stay well the fuck away...

The silver band had been etched with sharply-curved lines so that the surface curved and eddied like the surface of a creek.

The rock itself looked like nothing she'd expected, modest and deep blue instead of huge and shiny enough to blind people, but no less valuable. The rest, which Thornton had called an extreme insanity fee, had been stored away for an emergency, save for this, a souvenir of the craziest day of her life.

A year ago, she would've laughed at the idea of being "tied down", but at that moment, she couldn't imagine feeling any more free.

Jack woke to quiet snoring. After a few tries, he sat up, propping himself against the headboard.

Ryan slept in a chair across the room, head nodding as he breathed.

"Hey." He spoke a bit louder, and he jerked upright.

"Oh... I suppose I fell asleep..."

"How long have you been there?"

Ryan stretched. "A while - I got up early to look at the garden, then we saw the children off to school... Feeling better, I assume?"

"Much - though I'm guessing I don't smell like a bed of roses, do I?"

He smirked. "Whatever gave you that idea?"

100 - homecoming
clanoftheswords

Farley forced down a laugh as he took in the familiar city street. No rubble, no smoking crater, there were no signs that Shiwan had even existed!

Tears threatened, but he pushed them away as he walked up the steps. He wasn't about to try that, even if it was sincere.

He paused. From what he'd seen, the place looked untouched, but he didn't believe that nothing had changed. Had Daniel moved in, changed the locks, or kept them in hopes that his less-than-prodigal grandnephew would return?

He slid the key in and turned. The lock opened.

Home, sweet home.
