This is becoming a habit....

#19 - Death

"Emmett? Remind me why the hell we're doing this again?" Farley asked as they moved through the graveyard.

"Not enjoying this either?"

The former scientist glanced about the various gravestones. "Is it that obvious?"

Though he hadn't realized it at the time, his encounter with Shiwan Khan might have actually led to his death. As it was, he considered himself fortunate that Jonathan had interferred when he had. If he hadn't... He glanced at a tombstone whose death-year had been dated 1933 and shuddered.

The expression on his face didn't go unnoticed by Doc, who shook his head sympathetically. Through the course of his time-traveling adventures with Marty, he'd come close to death twice, both incidents having been averted by Marty. The third time, however... Doc shook his head. Sometimes he wished he'd chosen to be healed, instead of the whole dæmonhood package. Unfortunately, that was the only option he'd seen, and so...

"More than you know, Farley. More than you know..."

Let's see... The dæmons were originally elves who faced a situation similar to those in Lord of the Rings. However, instead of leaving, they attempted to change themselves. While this preserved their immortality, it severely limited their once awesome powers, leaving them with basic skills (gift of tongues, basic magic abilities, changing into a certain animal, etc.) and limited their strongest abilities to three, chosen completely at random. Ashamed with what they'd done to themselves, they hid from the rest of mankind.

Hmm. Might have to do a slightly longer essay on this.
